Popular Barrack Street café Alchemy was attacked by vandals overnight

Busy Barack Street café Alchemy Coffee was targeted by vandals overnight, destroying a beautiful mural on the front of the shop, created for the business by Ukrainian artist and photographer Elisa Babkina.

Owner Eoin Hurley said the shocking scene was uncovered when the team arrived to open up this morning.

Hurley told Yay Cork that the damage was accompanied by a threatening note written in Russian, which appears to translate to ‘We are watching you’.

Oddly, the note had been typed and printed by the vandals before the incident and left at the scene.

The crime will be particularly upsetting to Alchemy’s team and regular customers, many of whom are creatives and active in the local arts scene.

The incident has been reported to the Gardaí and anyone with any information or dash cam footage can contact the Gardaí at Anglesea Street on (021) 4522000.
