Woman fighting for her life in hospital after being stabbed in Cork home

A WOMAN is fighting for her life in hospital after being stabbed in her home this afternoon.

The victim, thought to be in her 50s, was attacked in her home near Innishannon in West Cork.

She received a number of stab wounds to her body, a number of them life-threatening.

The emergency services were altered after the victim was found by a relative lying in a pool of blood.

She was rushed to Cork University Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery for the wounds.

Her condition tonight was reported as critical.


A man in his 20s who is known to the woman was arrested by Gardai and is being held in custody at Bandon Garda Station.

The crime scene was sealed off at the house, which is on the outskirts of the village.

It is being examined by members of the Garda Forensic Unit.

It’s understood a knife was recovered at the scene.

A source said: “The victim is a highly respected member of the local community.

“The entire community is in complete shock and everyone is praying that she will make a full recovery.”


Gardai in Bandon are appealing for information as detectives continue  their investigations.

A garda spokesman said: Gardaí are investigating a serious assault on a woman that occurred on the afternoon of Friday, 4th June, 2021, in County Cork.

“A woman was discovered with a number of apparent stab wounds at approximately 2pm at a residence in Innishannon.

“The woman was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where she is currently in a critical condition.

“The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination.

“A man in his early 30s has been arrested in connection with this assault. He is currently being detained at Bandon Garda Station.

“Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information in connection with this assault to contact Bandon Garda Station on 023 8852200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
