Demi told how she never saw someone who looked like her represented in the media and urged her followers to embrace their differences.

She said: “Last night was the DEBS EPISODE of the young offenders. This is one of my most favourite episodes by far!

“Head of costume Lara came to me and asked if she could make an African print dress for the show! And of course I was DELIGHTED!

LACK OF DIVERSITY

“After weeks of coming up with a design and being poked with needles (cause I had many fittings) we came out with a beautiful design.”

While she was growing up, Demi said there was a lack of people from the same cultural background as her on TV.

She said: “Growing up I never saw anyone like me or who came from the same cultural background as me on Irish television.

PRIDE IN YOURSELF

“With this small gesture I hope that I can show that IRELAND IS DIVERSE AND ITS OKAY TO BE DIFFERENT AND BE PROUD OF WHERE YOU CAME FROM!!”

Demi, who plays Linda Walsh in Young Offenders, grew up in Mallow Co Cork along with her four younger brothers.

Fans went wild over the Young Offenders debs episode and Demi’s look.

AFRICAN REPRESENTATION

Emma said: “I was living for your look this episode, so beautiful!!”

Tynisha commented: “We Love African-cork representation (even tho you one of the first)”

Veronica added: “The part where Linda came out in her debs dress was my favourite part of the new season.”

RTE viewers called last night’s episode of The Young Offenders “utterly terrific” as Conor, Jock, Linda and Siobhan all attend their debs.

At the begging of the show, Conor and Jock eagerly awaited the girls to ask them to the debs as they had been expelled and couldn’t go otherwise.

After being refused entry, the two boys got to work throwing toilet roll over the hotel.
