A MAN who died instantly when his jeep hit a ditch yesterday afternoon has been named locally.
Cornelius O’Donovan, 46, was killed when his vehicle crashed on the N72 at Lombardstown, near Mallow, Co Cork, at 3.25pm.
Mr O’Donovan, who was travelling by himself in the jeep, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Paramedics, emergency services and Gardai were all in attendance but he was declared deceased by a locally based doctor.
Mr O’Donovan was from Newmarket in county Cork.
His body was taken to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact gardai.
A garda spokesman said: “Gardai were at the scene of a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 3:25pm on Tuesday, 27th April, 2021, on the N72 at Lombardstown, Mallow, County Cork.
“The driver of the car involved, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“There were no other occupants in the vehicle.”
The road was closed to allow Forensic Collision Investigators to technically examine the scene and local diversions were in place.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
They are asking for any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling in the area at this time to make this footage available to Gardaí.
