Driver in ‘critical condition’ and second driver and passenger hospitalised after two cars collided head-on in Cork

THREE people were rushed to hospital last night after two cars collided in Co Cork last night.

The road traffic incident took place on the R610 at Raffeen, Carrigaline, Co Cork at around 9.15pm on Saturday.

Three people – two drivers and a passenger – were rushed to Cork University hospital.

The male driver of the first car, 34, is in a “critical condition” in hospital.

The driver and passenger of the second car, 56 and 17 year old males, recieved non-life threatening injuries.

The road is still closed this morning as gardai forensic investigators are at the scene.

Gardai have asked anyone with information, particularly those with dashcam footage to come forward.


A spokesperson said: ‘Gardaí in Carragline are appealing for witnesses to a serious injury road traffic collision that occurred on the R610 at Raffeen, Carrigaline, County Cork on Saturday 22nd August, 2020 at approximately 9.15p.m.

“The collision occurred when two cars collided head on.

“Three persons (two drivers and one passenger) were taken from the scene of the collision to Cork University Hospital.

“The male driver (34 years) of the first car is in critical condition and the male driver and male passenger (56 years & 17 years) of the second car received nonlife threatening injuries.

“The road is currently closed as Forensic Collision Investigators are at scene and local diversions are in place.

“Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was travelling on the R160 at Raffeen, Carrigaline, Co. Cork between 9p.m. and 9.15p.m. last night,

“Saturday 22nd August, 2020 or anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed the collision, particularly any road users with dash cam footage, to contact Togher Garda Station on 021 4947120, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
