DELIGHTED parents received the most precious Christmas gift this morning in the Rotunda Hospital as they welcomed the newest editions to their family.
Baby boy Fiadhan Brant was born at 4.04am to parents Isolde Sheridan and Andrew Brant from Charlestown, Finglas.
Fiadhan, who weighed 3.78kgs, was the first baby delivered at the hospital, followed by baby girl Anasthia Christina Cioponea, at 4.30am
Anasthia was born to mother Nadeja Cioponea and Alexandru Daniel from Coolmine, Dublin, and weighed 3.25kgs.
Elsewhere, Christmas joy was being spread with a splash as swimmers braced 8C temperatures to take a Christmas Day dip.
People braced the chilly weather to enter the water for the annual Christmas Day swim at the Forty Foot bathing spot in Sandycove Dublin.
FESTIVE SWIM
Fountainstown beach in Cork also welcomed some festive swimmers, as did Donaghadee in Co Down
One of those braving the elements in Donaghadee was Kathleen Monteverde, who said it was an exhilarating experience.
She said: “It is something I always admired other people doing and never thought I could do it.
“I started in February and aiming to get the whole year for the first time.”
“It definitely wakes you up and gets you ready for the day because Christmas can be very stressful – it is so busy.
“It is great, you just get grounded and ready for the day.”
She said it was also a mindful experience: “You feel the cold going up every part of you and you just enjoy it.
“It is really stimulating but it is about the company as well and having new friends.”
Jill McClements said her mother was 86 and had been swimming for 80 years in Newcastle, Co Down, extolling the benefits in friendship and how good it left her feeling.
She added: “This is the first year I am swimming through the winter and I think she is really delighted.
“In fact, I think I am the favourite daughter at the moment – yay.”
